Description

Relevance and Outcomes:

Dermal filler treatments are medical procedures that require a thorough understanding of anatomy, product characteristics, and risk management. While injection techniques are often emphasized in aesthetic training, safe clinical practice begins with knowledge — not technique.

This module focuses on the scientific principles that underpin responsible filler treatments. You will develop a clear understanding of how hyaluronic acid fillers interact with tissue, how rheological properties influence treatment outcomes, and how anatomical variation shapes clinical risk.

By learning how fillers behave in different facial regions and how complications develop, practitioners gain the knowledge needed to make safer treatment decisions and prepare for supervised hands-on injection training.

Who Is this module for?

This course is designed for licensed healthcare professionals who want to begin performing dermal filler treatments and need a strong theoretical foundation before practical training.

The course is particularly relevant for:

  • Doctors entering aesthetic medicine
  • Nurses starting dermal filler treatments
  • Dentists expanding into facial aesthetics
  • Practitioners seeking stronger safety awareness and product understanding

Individuals interested in the science of dermal fillers without performing injections may also take the theoretical component.

Practical filler training requires medical authorization according to local regulations.

Why this module matters

Dermal filler treatments involve complex interactions between injected materials and living tissue.

Without a structured understanding of anatomy, product behavior, and complication mechanisms, the risk of adverse outcomes increases significantly.

Understanding filler science allows practitioners to:

  • Assess risk zones more accurately
  • Select appropriate filler products
  • Recognize early signs of complications
  • Perform safer clinical evaluations
  • Develop structured treatment plans

This knowledge forms the essential foundation for responsible dermal filler practice.

What you’ll learn

This course teaches the fundamental scientific and anatomical principles that underpin safe dermal filler treatments.

You will learn how fillers behave in dynamic and static facial regions, how product characteristics influence treatment outcomes, and how anatomical variation affects clinical risk.

Key topics include:

  • Classification of dermal fillers
  • Hyaluronic acid filler science
  • Rheology and product characteristics
  • Tissue integration and filler behavior
  • Vascular anatomy and facial danger zones
  • Mechanisms of vascular occlusion and ischemia
  • Complication recognition and safety protocols
  • Patient assessment and risk evaluation
After completing this module, you will be able to:
  • Understand how hyaluronic acid fillers behave in tissue
  • Interpret rheological properties such as elasticity and cohesivity
  • Recognize anatomical risk zones in the face
  • Identify early signs of filler-related complications
  • Evaluate patient suitability for dermal filler treatments
  • Select appropriate filler products based on treatment goals
  • Understand injection depth considerations and treatment planning
  • Apply safety-driven decision making in aesthetic consultations

FAQ – Common Questions

Do I need prior experience?

No, we have adapted the course for both those who are experienced in skincare treatments and those who have no experience.

Can I upgrade to hands-on later?

Yes. Upgrade is available after passing the online theory.

Am I legally allowed to perform these treatments after completing this module in my country?

Upon completion, you receive certification from Nordic Aesthetics Academy confirming your theoretical and/or supervised practical training.

However, it is your personal responsibility to ensure that your educational background and professional status allow you to legally perform specific treatments in your country of practice. Regulations vary between jurisdictions.

For hands-on training, participants must provide valid documentation confirming that their background permits them to perform the relevant treatments in the country where the training takes place. NAA ensures compliance during official training days but cannot assume responsibility for how treatments are performed after completion in your home country.

If you are unsure about your eligibility, we are happy to guide you via email at info@na.academy.se before enrolment.

Online theory may be purchased by anyone interested in the knowledge itself, regardless of professional background.

What happens if I fail the online assessments?

Each included course contains multiple-choice assessments.

If you do not pass on the first attempt, you may retake the test.

The questions vary between attempts, but the required knowledge standard remains the same. The purpose is mastery — not gatekeeping.

The structure ensures that you genuinely understand the material before progressing to hands-on training.

What is the exact structure of hands-on training — how much practice do I personally get?

Hands-on training consists of five full practical days (approximately 6–7 hours per day).

Each day focuses on one treatment theme and includes:

  • Focused morning theory session
  • Demonstration by experienced NAA instructors
  • Supervised treatment practice on a minimum of three real patient models per participant
  • Individual feedback and consultation review
  • Access to all necessary equipment and materials
  • Lunch and full-day structured program

Training takes place in carefully selected clinical facilities and is designed to maximize individual attention and quality of learning.

Professional follow-up is provided after training.

How many participants are there per hands-on training day?

Groups are intentionally kept small, typically between 4–10 participants depending on the treatment theme.

This ensures close supervision, individual feedback, and a structured learning environment.

Where is the hands-on training held, and do I need to travel internationally?

Hands-on training is held in selected countries and clinical locations organized by NAA.

Participants receive full location details before confirming enrolment. NAA also collaborates with selected partners to provide accommodation recommendations and practical travel guidance.

How long do I have access to the online material?

You receive long-term access to the online learning platform, including:
